2021 was an incredible year for webtoon adaptations with many incredibly popular webtoons getting drama adaptations that turned out to be just as successful as their original counterparts. With several drama adaptations already on air and many others in the pipeline, yet to release their schedules, we can’t help but wish for all our favourite webtoons to get adapted as well! The latest webtoon stealing fans’ hearts is “There Must Be Happy Endings”. Originally a web novel, this webtoon has a 9.79 rating on Naver WEBTOON and over 213k readers. The original work is by Flada. It is adapted by Bulsa and created by Jaerim, who also created “So I Married The Anti-Fan”. As the webtoon is still unfinished, the curiosity and interest towards the webtoon is growing with each chapter. Noticeably, fans are already vying for a drama adaptation of the same! However, there is no official news of it getting a drama adaptation at the moment. You can read the webtoon in English here. This webtoon combines the complexities of contract marriage with the even more intense and interesting topic of time travel and reincarnation. The leading characters are YeoNu and SeonJae. These two characters enter into a contract marriage out of certain obligations but as most contract marriages go, neither of them seem to be happy in this made-up relationship. YeoNu painfully endures the pressures from SeonJae’s family and quietly suffers each day until one day, she decides to divorce him. On the last day of their marriage, YeoNu and SeonJae share a kiss for the first time, only to prove their loving relationship to his aunts. However, that isn’t the only eventful thing that happens that day. As YeoNu writes her final letter to YeonJae, she describes just how unhappy she was with him. No matter how much she tried, she could not get used to the new life. Spoiler Alert! SeonJae tries his best to make her stay but she refuses and asks him to let go of her. Finally, on the day their divorce is finalized, SeonJae tries to make small talk, in a frail attempt to renew their relationship. However, he gets turned down again. However, the real shocker comes when on the way back home, a truck hits SeonJae right in front of YeoNu’s eyes. A twist of fate takes YeoNu exactly 100 days back in time and this time, she is determined to get her happy ending. With the immense popularity of the web novel and the webtoon, it is hopefully only a matter of time before this webtoon gets picked up for an adaptation and Kpopmap can already think of a few actors and actresses that would be perfect for the same.
1. Lee YeoNu
YeoNu is diligent and sincere. She might be a little less perceptive but she makes up for it by being expressive of her emotions. She has strong opinions and a witty sense of humour. She’s 25 years old. We think Im SooHyang, Lee SungKyung, SeoHyun and BLACKPINK’s JiSoo would be good fits for the role of YeoNu.
2. Kang SeonJae
Kang SeonJae appears indifferent and reserved on the outside but he has a wealth of rich emotions that he hides behind that facade. He is older than YeoNu and has a mature air to him. We think Seo KangJoon, Jang KiYong, Sung Hoon and SHINee’s MinHo would be good fits for this role. Note: The aim of the vote is for Kpopmap readers to share their opinion about their preference for the cast. It is not affecting the cast of the production team.
