You can read all of our picks for “Underrated Scene Of The Week” here. This week’s underrated yet iconic scene comes from one of the most highly anticipated K-Dramas on air at the moment, “Tomorrow”, starring SF9’s RoWoon, Kim HeeSeon, Lee SooHyuk, and Yoon JiOn. “Tomorrow” premiered worldwide on Netflix on April 1, 2022, to an overwhelmingly positive response and favourable ratings. The first episode does an incredible job at establishing the premise, introducing the characters and even endearing them to the viewers. The basics of the Underworld are laid out, and the principles governing the same are too.
Kim HeeSeon plays Gu Ryeon, Team Leader of the Risk Management Team. The only other member in her department is Lim RyungKu, played by Yoon JiOn. When Choi JunWoong, played by RoWoon, accidentally goes into a coma trying to save someone the Risk Management Team was in charge of, he is offered a contractual position in the Underworld with free rein to choose the team he wants to be on. As it turns out, he’s unbelievably well-suited to the temperament of the Risk Management Team. With no other Team willing to take the “half and half”, referring to JunWoong’s half-human, half-spirit state, Gu Ryeon steps up to take him under her wing. Thus begin the adventures of the trio we just can’t get enough of. Spoiler Alert! While the first two episodes of “Tomorrow” were chock full of meaningful, poignant, shocking, and hilarious scenes alike, one particular moment lives rent-free in our heads: Lim RyungKu clocking out of work the second his shift ends. Now, there is a clear indication that Lim RyungKu has a significant backstory for his insistence on leaving work on time which will be explored later on in the story, especially with the somber way in which Gu Ryeon yields to him but that does not take away from the comedic import of the same. It seems as though Gu Ryeon has made some sort of promise to Lim RyungKu to allow him to go home on time no matter what and he too, has important matters he must attend to once he does. However, what makes this scene so memorable is the nonchalant, deadpan humour with which actor Yoon JiOn portrays Lim RyungKu’s determination to clock out. The cherry on the cake is that he has an alarm to signal the end of his working hours, and the alarm tone is the song ‘Leave Work On Time’ by Lee YiKyung!
It just doesn’t get any more iconic than this! What was your favourite scene from episodes 1 and 2 of “Tomorrow”? Share your thoughts with Kpopmap in the comments section down below!
